Obtaining A Briefing
The primary source of preflight weather briefings is an individual briefing obtained from a briefer at the FSS (1-800-WX BRIEF). Pilots can access government-produced weather data online at the Aviation Weather Center (AWC) www.aviationweather.gov. Other sources of weather information are the Telephone Information Briefing Service (TIBS), the Direct User Access Terminal (DUATS), and private sources (AOPA,The Weather Channel, Weather Underground, local news).
A standard briefing will include:
1.Adverse conditions
2.Whether VFR flight not recommended
3.Synopsis of prevailing weather systems
4.Current conditions
5.Enroute forecast
6.Destination forecast
7.Winds aloft
8.NOTAMS
9.ATC delay
