Clothing

Having proper clothing is one of the most important factors in surviving an airplane crash. Pilots should dress for the climate and terrain being overflown rather than the departure airport and destination. Additional warm clothing should be packed in a readily accessible spot.

Temperatures can drop precipitously at night and at high altitudes. Extra layers can always be removed if it is hot, and as long as sufficient water is carried on board, hyperthermia can be avoided by staying hydrated, avoiding exertion, and remaining in the shade.
